Society's 2026 National Tour a Great Sucess
The Australiana Society’s 2026 national tour, from 24–31 March, commenced in Launceston and travelled south via the Fingal Valley and Tasmania’s east coast, concluding in Hobart. The tour focused on historic properties and collections in private ownership not generally open to the public. The properties we visited reflect Tasmania’s European settlement history, architecture, interior and landscape design, building technology (e.g. joinery) the wool and timber industries and of course the legacies of the First Tasmanians, Britain and southeast Asia. Malcolm Ward, Vera Taylor, Jennie Jackson, Colin Thomas, Scott Carlin and many owners of historic properties enhanced our visits with their informative commentary.
